Claire Groganabout me

I’ve been taking actors photographs since the ‘90s and am happy to be one of the leading headshot photographers in the country, working closely with many top London agents. After training at Mountview and treading the boards throughout the ‘80s I decided to turn my lifelong love of photography into a full time occupation. My dad was a photographer and that influenced me from an early age. I’ve always been fascinated by the breathtaking beauty of natural light and the expressiveness of the human face, particularly the eyes.

As an actor myself, I really understand what it’s like having your photos taken – some of you adore it and some of you absolutely hate it - but I can promise I’ll take good care of you and give you just as much TLC as you want. I’ll also give clear direction and make sure you get the sort of casting shots you need, whether you’re a drama student, recent graduate or seasoned professional.

Over the years I’ve developed a main headshot style that’s natural, fresh and captures your particular energy – let’s call it you on your best day - that any casting director will recognize when you walk in the room. And if you feel you need a more glamorous shot, for a theatre programme, West End musical or US casting, I can provide that too.

Sessions with me are relaxed, friendly and unhurried and take place at my home in Archway, north London – just a short walk from the tube.

When you arrive we have a chat about exactly what you want from the shoot, look at clothes choices and discuss different casting looks. You may want some variety or you may just want to concentrate on just getting that special “you” shot – we’ll discuss all this thoroughly before we start, resulting in a focussed and creative session.

My studio is on the premises and I have my own private outdoors shooting space with indoor facilities. It’s fine to change hair, make-up or shave during the shoot if you want. I’m a dab hand with concealer and can help with blemishes, under eye shadows etc. if we feel you need it. Spots often appear at the worst possible time but don’t worry, I can deal with that in Photoshop later.

I shoot outdoors and outdoors/studio combinations Monday to Friday (2 shoots per day, morning or afternoon) and studio only shoots early evenings and some Saturdays. Full shoots are 3 hours+ and budget shoots are two hours+ but I have the flexibility to give you extra time if you need it. If you feel you would need longer just let me know when booking and I’ll accommodate it at no extra charge.

I’m one of a handful of photographers shooting both on film or digitally and offer a choice of packages including prints and retouching.
